Buzzi Unicem USA is a manufacturer of cement products that contracted with Hayden Wrecking to dismantle existing precipitators and their associated structures that were no longer being utilized. These precipitators and structures were located between rotary kilns and a stack that were to remain in place. A portion of the precipitators contained asbestos so Hayden Wrecking subcontracted the removals to an asbestos abatement firm. Hayden Wrecking utilized an Ultra High demolition excavator equipped with a rotating shear and a standard configured demolition excavator equipped with a rotating shear to dismantle the shorter portions of the precipitators and structures. The taller portions of the precipitators and structures were “pre-cut” utilizing Hayden Wrecking personnel in a manlift with cutting torches. The precipitators were then brought to the ground utilizing shaped explosive charges. When the taller sections were brought to the ground, the demolition excavators equipped with rotating shears further dismantled the precipitatorsand structures. The salvageable materials generated from the precipitators were taken to a recycling firm.
